~ green corridor run ~
yay for the Green Corridor Run 2013! this is the happiest race i’ve ever been in… for two reasons:
first, ari is in the race with me! it’s been amazing that he would train with me for he past month, waking up in the wee hour to run along with me. i really wish he doesn’t stop after this race.
second, because we both got to run on the Green Corridor… we’ve been a fan of the route ever since the KTM stopped their service and the land was returned to Singapore. at first, we wanted to try cycling the route. but we don’t have mountain bikes and our city bikes won’t be able to take the course. so, when i found out about the race, i immediately signed up… and ari, who always tried to avoid running, ended up training with me for a month prior to the race. we love it that much.
i wish i took pictures of the Tanjong Pagar Station while we were there, but we tried to squeeze ourselves into the first wave to avoid the hot morning weather. so all we got was the beautiful pinkish-marshmellowy-looking clouds when the sun had just risen behind us, a few minutes before the run started.
and honestly, the organizer did a very good job. the race was smooth (despite the first traffic jam between 3-4km) and fun. they had markers every 0.5km, and it felt like the KMs just flew by… the course was rather muddy, but it was all good and fun.
after the first traffic jam above, i decided to just run by all the mud.
the view was lovely and since we went on the first wave (the 7:15am), the sun wasn’t that hot yet. and the whole way, we were trying to guess where we were. we passed by Rani’s old house, which was kinda cool.
unlike the Macritchie trail, the Green Corridor is flat… so, even though the terrain was uneven and muddy, if we just keep running, we will maintain a pretty stable pace. so, i think the result was pretty good for us… :)
that timing includes our bathroom break on the 5k and the traffic jam on the 3k… not bad.
and when we reached the finish line, which was located at the old Bukit Timah Railway Station, we were greeted by Aina, Relly, Taam and little Maxi.
there was an endless flow of drinks and bananas… and everone was relaxing and sitting around on the old rails. we didn’t use the baggage deposit, but we saw that the two trucks for the first and second waves have arrived. it looks like the systems worked pretty well.
we took off after taking a few pictures. and since the 77 bus passes right along the street outside, we didn’t need to take a taxi. we bought some bread from Provence and went to bed straight after we finished eating.
