~ singapore science centre ~
it’s a school holiday for aina, so we decided to go check out the Singapore Science Centre during the weekday, trying to avoid the crowd. the last time we went to the Science Centre was about 2-3 years ago, and apparently, she didn’t remember anything about the trip. so, it’s time to refresh :)
it was Friday, and we thought the place would be empty. but it turned out that there were a few big busses with school kids in it. i guess since today was the last day of school before the long holiday, a lot of schools using it for field trips.
the old favorites were still there…
and there were a lot of new exhibits in the science centre… like these shadow play. they placed pieces of strategically cut paper in an angle on top of the white canvas, and put a spotlight on it. they made all kinds of shapes, like animals and faces. so cool!
we then visit the Live Animal Exhibit. there were baby chicks fresh from the eggs… it was aina’s first time seeing cute little baby chicks. there was one that kept aina’s fingers. she immediately wanted one (or two… or three) for herself. ack!
after tearing her away from the chicks, we visited the Candy Unwrapped Exhibition next door. it is a temporary exhibition about, well, Candies.
there were huge teeth and tongue that kids can play on. most of the kids immediately jump up and down like in a mattress. at the beginning, she didn’t realize that it was teeth and tongue, but after reading the signs (sloooowly, she’s just learning how to read), she had a lot of fun jumping on the taste buds… and trying to point which of the tooth that’s about to fall out of in her mouth.
then, she went climbing a rock candy…
and made pretend candies out of play-doh…
after playing candies, we went over to the Sound Exhibit, which is a permanent exhibit. we took aina to this place before, but apparently, she didn’t remember a thing.
cute metal dust, forming “dancing metal grass”. they’re dancing based on the music played.
the shape of your vocal chord
how the heat can make a sound on a pipe organ
we then visited another temporary exhibit, the iSpace. it looked really cool and so futuristic… too bad it’s closing on December 2nd, so if you’re around, come visit before it’s gone.
there were a few of shadow-based intearctive exhibition… like the two below:
aina loves those kinds of exhibit, so she could spend a lot of time playing with it…
we went for a quick visit to the Marine Alcove. although i think, for marine stuff, it’s better to go to the Aquariums in Sentosa. there was not much here…
we then went upstairs to see the Invent Room and Robotics area, where aina met robots from Atom (Astro Boy in English) to Wall-E.
honestly, though. the robotic area of the Science Centre was a disappointment. i wish they had more interactive exhibit instead of just putting different robots on displays.
it was getting late and the sun wasn’t as harsh as earlier today. so we decided to visit the Eco Garden on the outside. just like aina, i’ve never been here either. it turned out that they have a pretty cool tree house there. there were pulleys with basket attached to it, so that you can take things from the bottom to the top of the tree house. there were trap doors for emergency exit. aina was amused.
there were also areas explaining solar panel roof and stuff.
the rest of the Eco Garden was more like a miniature of Botanic Gardens. it explains different type of plants and their usage.
when we came back from the Garden into the building, the Tesla Coil show was on. there was a guy put in a cage (which as a Faraday Cage) and later was striked by lightning from Tesla Coil… aina was scared and amused at the same time. it was the first story she told ari when they met.
we tried to visit everything in the Science Centre. but it’s too large for one day. we still need to see the Kinetic Garden, which look really fun. we also missed WaterWorks Exhibition, because we didn’t bring bathing suit for aina. so next visit, we will definitely go for it. it looks soooo much fun!

A good place to visit….looks interesting.
yes, perfect for kids :)
