~ europe day 2: gothic quarter & mercat boqueria ~
finally, after dragging aina out of the plaza, we entered La Rambla. per Maddy’s suggestions, we made sure that all passports and important documents are left in the Hostel. money and IDs are in the money-belt, nothing in the back and coat pocket. iPhone is in the bag, zipped all the way up. all set. we’re ready to enter La Rambla… :D
we didn’t stay there long, though… we cut into the Gothic Quarter, enjoying sprawl of cute little alleys.
at some point, aina needed to go to the bathroom, and we realized that this is not like Singapore, where you can just go into the malls to find bathrooms. so we ended up buying some croissants (for our breakfast) to get access to the bathroom.
there was a group of street musicians playing nicely right in front of the Cathedral… aina didn’t want to leave, so we spent some time listening to their music with an amazing looking backdrop of the Cathedral… such a beautiful experience!
Gothic Quarter was just lovely… the buildings are definitely must-sees. but there are also performers on every single corner: a guy with a violin playing classical music, gigantic bubble makers who were kid-magnets…
there was a small protest in front of the city-hall… we had no idea what it’s about, though.
we then stopped by Mercat Boqueria, the large market on La Rambla. and we went sorta crazy in here. we ended up with a bucket-full of the super-fat strawberries… mmm, strawberries!
on the way back to the Hostel, we walked back in to the Camper store and got the boots. yay, new boots!
it was only 7:30 in the evening when we got to the hostel, but we were beat. we took a nap for an hour, planning to go out for dinner. but an hour later, we were still tired. aina couldn’t even wake up. so we ended up sleeping through the night. it was a much-needed rest, though :)
today’s photo is in the flickr 10/3/2012 album.
