~ vintage cat eye glasses ~

21 January 2012

ever since ari got a new pair of glasses (horn-rim one) about a year ago, i’ve been wanting to update my glasses. the current blue pair has been with me since 2003. so i think i deserve a new pair…

but i have specific design in mind. i want a pair of vintage cat eye glasses with some blings on it… the 50’s glasses. black is good, but lighter color would be better.

i searched around and found some on the internet. but since i have a weird face shape and my nose is barely there, buying glasses without trying is a big no-no. so, online shopping is out of the option.

i also found a store in Millenia Walk that sells the designs that i like. they’re not vintage, but i think they’re were all remakes. the thing is, the prices are all over $1k… that’s just waaaaaay out of my budget.

so, updating glasses had been put in the back-burner… until today!

finally, i found what i’ve been looking for: i got, not one… but TWO pairs of new glasses.

new glasses!

this morning — by chance — i found Stevie General Store, a little store that sells wonderful things, including vintage glasses. i showed the website to ari, that we decided to go and check it out. we came home with two precious frames…

new glasses!

the resin part is greenish/light greyish with aluminum accents on the top. this pair is my favorite… this is exactly what i’ve been wanting to have. it’s made in France, bought in the States, built in the 60’s. perfect! i love it so much that i started to wear it when we went out for dinner… with no lens.

new glasses!

the black pair looks pretty standard, but i really love the small details. they are very thick and sturdy. and the temple areas, the pointy parts of the frame, are actually tapered. and i think it fits me well. these ones were made in the States, back in the 50’s. cool, eh?

now i need to send it to an optician to get the prescription lenses installed and cross my fingers that they won’t ruin my vintage frames.
