~ xmas tree project: DIY shiny balls ~
we’re trying to continue with the tradition where we make our own xmas tree decoration every year, hoping the tree will eventually be fully decorated with our DIY stuff. but it’s kinda hard to find activities that aina enjoys and doesn’t get bored doing it… but since aina likes glittery things, we decided to make our own christmas tree balls.
what you need:
- styrofoam balls
- colorful sequins and beads
- short pins
- thimble
- small ribbon for hanging (not pictured)
so first, take one short pin and slip one bead into the pin. then slip a sequin upside-down.
then, push the pin into the styrofoam ball all the way through until the bead and the sequin doesn’t move anymore. repeat this until the whole styrofoam ball surface is completely covered with shiny sequins.
and don’t forget to use a thimble when pushing the pins! it’s fun to wear and it doesn’t hurt your fingers :)
based on my experience, though, a 3-year old will get bored halfway along the way… so, this is probably a better craft activity for an older kids.
in any case, we had fun :) and aina loves everything blingy, so shiny beads and sequins helped retaining her attention…
and they look pretty good when they’re done!
