~ superhero mask #2 ~
back in april, she had a paper super hero mask, which lasted for months. it finally ripped on the nose bridge and i promised her that i would make her a fabric mask so that it’d last longer… and that was a few months ago.
yesterday, she asked, “binggi, you said that you’ll make me a superhero mask out of fabric… let’s make one today!”
so we did. i drafted the mask out of paper to serve as pattern, making sure the eye holes are in the right place. she chose which fabrics she wants to use for the mask and we started working.
we finished the mask before aina’s bed time so she had time to try it out and wore it for a while. she went to bed with it. after she’s gone asleep, i added some decorative edging.
i should’ve used a think backing fabric to retain the mask shape better. without the backing, whenever the rubber band is pulled too tightly, the mask collapses and the fabric is pushed into the eye cavity, making the wear is super uncomfortable.
so, i left the rubber band very loose.
oh well, i learned my lesson. next time: buy backing fabric. she seems pretty happy with the result and has been wearing it all day today.
