patchwork skirt

so, what did i do this weekend? i made a new skirt for aina! this time, using all kinds of scraps and leftover fabrics from the bag, the curtain, and all of those old sewing projects i did. it turns out that cutting small squares of fabric has somekind of meditative quality. i think i’m addicted. i’ve started to think about wallets, small bags, big bags, hats… mmm…

anyway, aina loves the new skirt. she wanted to wear it even before i finished putting the edging. and as usual, she started to pose for the camera as soon as she put the skirt on. it makes me really happy that she likes what i make… really, REALLY happy :D

Hi Thalia, salam kenal. I’ve been reading (and enjoying) your blog since quite a while but too shy to comment :-) *ga deeeeh*
I heart Aina’s skirt.
Can I ask you a question? Are you a self learner in term of sewing me-nyewing (jahit menjahit maksudnya) or did you take a sewing lesson.
I want to start sewing but a bit lost in the choice of the machine and so on. I just want to make simple things so I don’t know if I should take a sewing lesson or just follow from a book.

here’s my blog, for just in case :-)

hi lisa, salam kenal juga :) in terms of sewing, i’m self-taught. and my sewing machine is one of the basics. the brand is Brother. it was a toss between Singer and Brother, but mine was cheaper :P the reason i chose those two was because they have a decent customer service in Asia.

if you would like to buy a basic sewing machine, i suggest you buy one that has the ability of making button hole stitch. i think most of the basic machine of newer models have that ability,so i probably didn’t narrow it down enough for you :P

even though i’m self-taught, i grew up in a family who sew a lot. so i’m very familiar with sewing and how the machine works. so if you have never sewn before, i suggest you take some lesson. believe it or not, certain sewing machine comes with sewing lessons! i know Brother machine do (i didn’t take it though… too lazy to go to the class, hehe). i think, that kind of lesson should be enough… the rest, you can learn from books and tips & tricks over the internet :)

good luck!

Your girl is just so adorably photogenic! And the skirt is adorable. I wish I had the talent and the patience to make such cute stuff.
