~ Navy Open House 2007 ~
remember this pixel illustration? well, the project is done and we went to the event: Singapore Navy Open House 2007.
since we did the illustration for the poster and the map, i have to post the pictures of the flyers that contains our work. hee hee.

ari, sokkuan and i did the illustration on the flyer and poster.

sokkuan did the illustration for the map.
the flyer/poster turned out to be smaller than we thought it would be. we were told to draw an A2 poster and A3 map, but it turns out to be an A3 poster and A4 map, making the pixelated effect a little washed out. ah well.
the event itself was quite fun. we went there after seeing off my mom at the airport (she’s flying to Jakarta). since the access to the Changi Naval Base is restricted, the public had to go to Singapore Expo where a free shuttle will take them to the Naval Base. the wait for the shuttle, unfortunately, was about 2 hours — that includes bag checking and metal detector thingy. they put some navy vehicles and missiles on display in the waiting area, which is good. and there is a huuuuge banner of the poster illustration that we did hung from the ceiling… it looked really cool (at least for us, probably because we did it).
since we waited in an air-conditioned hall and rode an air-conditioned shuttle, we didn’t realize how HOT it was outside. and the base was very much open, which makes it hard to fine shaded areas. ari and i didn’t spend too much time there. we took pictures of the ships from the outside and didn’t bother to go into the ship, since the line was about 90 minutes long. i just couldn’t stay out in the sun for that long.
i think the open house was quite interesting. it’s awesome to see the real thing after spending a month drawing those ships using only photo reference. ari and i still remember all those details on the ship, like where is the canon, how does the open-bowel mechanism work, etc etc. i would love to see and go into those ships some day… however, a Navy Open House is not designed for a 9-month pregnant woman. it was too hot and i can’t participate at any sea activities either (like that cool duck tour and banana boat). i was dead tired from the trip that i fell asleep at the shuttle bus, then in the cab, then immediately went to bed as soon as i got home, sleeping for a few hours. whew.
you can see the rest of the photos at Navy Open House 2007 photo album.
ps: happy birthday for my dad and Fenny! and happy wedding anniversary for Fenny and Ramanda! first year, eh? :)

eh cool poster! Really great work! but i can’t find you and ari among the crowd in the poster? and where’s Koda in the poster?
well, koda was supposed to be there, but she kept getting caught by the client. towards the end, the client gave an ultimatum: no pets, hidden nor in the open. so we had to take her out.
we’re there, near the center dancing tubes. i’m wearing red shirt, carrying Koda’s leash, while ari carrying our salmon-colored bag, shouting/looking for Koda (who supposedly ran away and somewhere in the poster)… :P
Ih, mau dong… would you save me a leaflet/poster. Looks really cool.
wah, telat, chan… eventnya udah lewat, dan gue cuman ngambil 3 leaflet.
wow… ini yg elo bilang yah huhuhu pengen n the poster keren euy.
iya, gue pikir tadinya acaranya pas elo disini. lumayan seru tuh! tapi mungkin buat Mika, dia bakalan kepanasan banget.
sangat keren…pingin poster sama mapnya ih :D
hehe, makanya jalan2 ke singapur dong :P
How can I find both of you? too small to see. must have taken a lot of time to draw so many people. Anyway, great!
Well could you at least show us a big hi res picture of it in avocadolite, I’d like to see it in detail and hopefully find you and Ari in it… (reminds me of Where’s Wally)
Funny, I know of a girl named Fenny who got married about one year ago too, and she is in Indonesia. She worked before in Malaysia. Could it be the same one? :O
hehe, probably not. this Fenny has never worked in Malaysia, and she’s currently living in Australia.
wow! emang keren ya?! kapalnya dan hasil karya loe, of course…! do you realize that lately Singapore emang kayak tungku! gue nggak bisa berdiri lama2 dibawah sinar matahari and I carry my umbrella at all time now… kayak nenek2! :) mending cuma jadi item, kalo kanker gimana??? hiiii!
emang panas banget! trus udah seminggu-an ga ujan2 ya… kasian, taneman gue pada kehausan, dan rumah gue ter-infect ulet bulu :(
