it’s been a while since i write anything about Koda. the last one was the little video. i still take countless pictures of her, i don’t post it as much anymore. for example, like this one below…

koda-loves-ari

ever since her first birthday, she has lost substantial amount of fur. her fur used to be long and a little wavy, but now, all she has is short hair. the longer ones are left on her tail, butt and behind her ears. those are getting thinner, too. i guess she realizes that since she lives in a tropical country, she doesn’t need a lot of coat.

within the past two weeks, the top of her snout — which was totally black — is getting lighter in color, while the front part of her neck and chest turns very dark, almost black. this is weird, because it used to be the lightest part of her body. ari and i keep telling the color of her snout is bleeding off to her neck area. it doesn’t show on the pictures above, because they were taken about a month ago.

for the past few months, whenever ari and i go out, we’ve been leaving Koda out of her cage. she spends most of her time sleeping on the bottom of the stairs (we notice that because everytime we come home, that spot is the warmest of all the floor). basically, she’s been behaving very well when left alone…

until last night.

we left for dinner and came back about an hour later, finding the phone bill torn in to pieces. it’s partly my fault, since i left the bill on the floor. but since we leave everything on the floor — that includes slippers, bags, notebooks and even snacks — and she hasn’t chewed anything that doesn’t belong to her for a looong time, i didn’t expect to see the bill in such small pieces. and i haven’t paid the bill, so it sucks to see it all shredded….

anyways, what i found interesting was Koda’s reaction. usually, whenever we come home, she will wake up and walk into her cage. as we open the front door, she will wait in the cage, wagging her tail with her ears folded back. we usually say hello and ask her to come over. after we say, “come here”, she will walk to us with her tail wagging like crazy…

last night, however, as we opened the door, she ran into the cage and stood on the furthest corner of the cage. no tail-wagging. her back leg was bent, but she wasn’t exactly sitting. she looks more like cowering.

i didn’t see the shredded paper when i came in, so i immediately say, “hello Koda!! come here!”… but she didn’t move. she just crouched on the corner with ears folded back and no wagging tail. i called her again, and she looked like she was too afraid to get out of the cage.

finally, ari spotted the shredded paper, and we understood why she didn’t want to come out of the cage. whenever Koda does something bad, she has to spend some time in her cage… you know, kinda like being grounded.

so, does this mean she knows that she did something wrong? does she know that shredding paper is wrong?

perhaps not… but we still love her, anyway. and i think she loves us too…

she does she does!! a friend’s dog behaved exactly the same way, he liked digging up the ground and usually got grounded from doing it so, one day he disappeared and everyone was frantically searching for him, turned out he had been hiding in the guest room because he had been messing around in the backyard again and knew he’d get grounded so bad. koda is so smart! whisky doeesn’t listen, he just runs to me.

ah, so other dogs do that, too! i guess, even though they knew it was wrong, they just couldn’t help it… :)

she knew that she had done something wrong. But maybe she couldn’t resist while doing it. of course, she loves both of you.

yeah, i think she was too excited when we left. she hasn’t done anything like this for quite a long time.

Wow, she is learning that shredding paper is bad! But maybe it was just there and she really wanted to do it even though it was bad. Maybe she had an anxiety from your going out?

I think she definitely loves you two back! Dogs (and cats too) understand human emotions and are capable of giving it back to you. The last picture of you and Koda is just so incredibly cute.

i love that last picture, too :D

she used to have a pretty bad separation anxiety, where many of our umbrellas torn to pieces. but it seems that she got over it in the past few months. i guess, not entirely :P

of course she ends up with long grounding session. she got yelled a bit. she didn’t even try to get out of the cage, even when the door was opened. hehehe, can’t get away with cuteness :P

she has this weird fur on the back of her ears. they’re longer than any other fur on her body, but sooooo soft!

i thought koda is a male dog? btw, she’s so cute, wanna bite her ears.. ‘-‘

rani | 28 July 2006 - 04:00 | reply

hehe, although she does have a masculine look, she’s been female all along. don’t worry, most people assume that she’s a boy dog ;)
