~ fur everywhere! ~
this is one of the furballs i got from grooming her this morning.
koda’s fur is taking over our house! furballs are everywhere! our rug is coated by her fur. our clothing is covered by fur. there is furball on every corner of the house. each steps of the stairs have its own furball. more furball sticks on chair legs, table legs and sofa. even our plants and my stuffed pandas gets their share of furballs. and you can always spot small furball on Koda’s wet nose.
she has been shedding like there is no tomorrow. i think she’s changing her coat.
the problem is the sweeping. we can’t keep up with the amount of fur coming off her. this is crazy because we don’t own vacuum cleaner.
this morning, i stopped brushing her because the fur doesn’t seem to stop coming off.
is this normal?

hi thalia. it sounds like you might be looking for an “undercoat” brush/comb… My dog is 10 years old and only recently did I discover the undercoat things.
this pag:

may be very helpful. For my dog, a chocolate lab, I use the first brush, and it works WONDERS! It is rubber, and seems as if it will do nothing, but all of her loose fur ends up in it. Depending on Koda’s fur, it might be just what you’re looking for. Hope this helps!
whoa, thanks for the link! it looks like i need that #3 brush… Koda has pretty thick undercoat, which is surprising to me since she’s a mutt from a tropical country… didn’t think that she’d have undercoat.
i’m currently using #4 brush… and that thing got filled up real quick!
thal, mungkin emang lagi masa rontoknya.
biasanya kalau deket ama mens, rambutnya rontok gitu deh. spt anjingku yang dulu.
kayaknya emang lagi masa rontok deh. soalnya kemaren2 ini ga kayak gini… anjingku sih udah dikebiri, jadi ga ada mens lagi :)
maybe it’s a change in season? my cat has been shedding a lot recently and i think it’s the warmer weather. i’m sure it’s always warm where you are though.
i’ve noticed that mopping seems to help a lot more than sweeping or vacuuming.
i think you’re right. she’s not even a year old, so i’m hoping that this is her first annual shedding season. my rabbit used to do that, but that was when i lived in a four season country… i didn’t expect that a dog coming from tropics would shed too… but then again, this is the first time i own a dog… what do i know, hehehe.
Maybe it is caused by the weather, Boni is also shedding quite a lot lately :(( Actually a friend of mine told me once to vacuum the dog during the shedding season using a car vacuum, to minimize the mess around the house, but I haven’t personally try this out :p
right before i read your comment, i actually read an article about vacuuming dog using a REAL vacuum. it was a samoyed/doberman mix, though. so i think vacuuming Koda is overkill :P
we’re thinking of buying a handheld vacuum, though.
Did you feed her with something irregular? Dogs can shed their fur if they have salty stuff too often.
no, we didn’t. she doesn’t eat anything but dog food, dog treats. sometimes we give her honey, milk and fruit. i don’t think she has any salt intake at all… hehe.
