~ star wars exhibition ~
finally, after about 5 months of showing, ari and i visited the Star Wars Exhibition in Singapore Science Centre. i’ve been wanting to go to that museum, because according to their brochures, right next to the Science Centre, there is a Snow City, where supposedly, you can ski in Singapore. it makes me wonder if it actually has real snow. so far, all the “snow city” i have visited has those shaved ice snow…
well, we didn’t go to the Snow City… but maybe we’ll go there next time.
anyways, about the Star Wars Exhibition… the exhibition is arranged per-episode. when you first enter, you go to the Episode IV areas where they show models, drawings and costumes used in the movie production. then the trail leads you to Episode V. the order goes 4, 5, 6, 1, 2 and 3. it’s pretty apparent that Episode 6 (Return of the Jedi) has almost nothing in it…. how sad. i would love to see the Ewok’s lair or something….
but the highlight for me was the concept drawings of the original starwars series. it’s interesting to see the difference between the concept drawings and the real movie. they are so well drawn, too!
there is also a demonstration of a Folley Studio, where a bunch of visitors, including ari and i, were gathered into a small sound-proof booth. the guide played a soundless clip off the Return of the Jedi, where the groups of ewoks attacked the storm troopers. we, the visitors are asked to fill the soundless clip with, well, sound made from things available in the booth (they call it the studio). i was to make the sound of people stepping on the grass by brushing two brooms together. ari, on the other hand, had to produce sound made by the storm trooper being beat up by the ewoks… like “UGH!… ARGH!”…
hahaha…. that was fun :)
another fun thing to do in the exhibition was the Mindball board game. we’ve seen this game played on TV (discovery channel? national geographic? something like that), where the only way you move the ball is by using your brain waves. the player uses some kind of head band that detects your brain wave and transmit it to the magnet that move the ball around. you can read clearer explanation on their website.
i soooo want to try the game out. but, as you can imagine, the table was crowded with kids wanting to play the game. so, we didn’t get to play… oh well.
anyways, we took a bunch of photos that we compiled into a photo album. check it out: Star Wars Exhibition (19 March 2006).
