~ pempek ~
today’s lunch: Pempek Palembang (some kind of fishcake from Palembang, a city in Sumatra, Indonesia) with shaved ebi. we got tons of it in the freezer, thanks to ari’s parents! and they’re sooo yummy.
tomorrow, a friend of ours are having a farewell party. she’s leaving for Beijing. she once went to Sumatra and had the pempek in Palembang, and loved it. so, we planned to give one of our pempek — along with its sauce, the ebi thingy and an instruction on how to prepare it — as the farewell gift. i hope she likes it :)

Thal, one day you should try my mom’s home made pempek. You’ll love it.
Lebaran yesterday, most of my family came to my home just to taste my mom’s pempek =).
i’d loooove to! i hope, next time i go to jakarta, she’s in the middle of making some and would leave some for me :)
i always like homemade pempek. my brother’s girlfriend’s mom makes great pempek. everytime i’m in jakarta, i always “order” some :)

i couldn’t find the pempek in NYC. but if you check out the Topline Grocery Store in Elmhurst (Queens), they may have started selling the pempek ready-made paste, so you can make them yourself.

i wonder if it can survive the trip of a foodswap? i sent frozen risoles once, and it was still cool when kathya got it. of course it only had to travel from berlin to wiesbaden.
yeah, i was thinking for the foodswap as well, but i’m afraid that it would be spoiled if the package take over two weeks to get to the destination.
i’m actually looking for the ready-made paste of pempek… ari’s mom said that they sell it in jakarta. i haven’t found it here in singapore, though.
