~ Sin City ~
i think yesterday was the first day Sin City played in Singapore theaters. ari and i quickly got the ticket from the 9:50PM movie, which ended a little after midnight.
woohoo! we finally watched it. and we love it. it’s so different than any other movies i’ve seen. as a noir movie that tries to emulate the comic feel to screen, i think it’s very successful. we feel like we’re watching a comic instead of a movie, if that makes any sense. even the typical cheesy dialogs in comics are in there. all the lovey dovey dialogs cracked me (and the rest of the audience in the theater) up many many times.
the movie plays in black and white with occasional color-in parts to stress points and whatnot. there were three stories wrapped into this movie (if you don’t count the opening scene). my personal favorite is the first story… Mickey Rourke as Marv was unbelievably good! and i was emotionally touched… although ari gave me a teasing smirk when i told him that. i like cheesy stuff.
the least favorite is the second segment, although it’s still cool and entertaining in its own way. maybe because there were too many characters fighting for the attention…
we’re thinking of buying the DVD once it comes out. i think it’s totally worth it. it’s a kind of movie that’s we can watch over and over again… and also type of movie that you can play in parties, without risking of ruining people’s mood. the images are powerful enough to stand by itself without sound, and memorable enough to spark conversations among the guests…
oh, one more thing. Sin City is very violent movie. but then again, it’s kinda expected, right?
ps: the trivias on IMDB is so much fun to read….
ugh, bikin sirik krn blon nonton :(
