~ australian summer bugs ~
Melbourne’s weather’s is as crazy as usual. last week, we’re devastated by the flood and hailstorm. this week, the weather is just getting hotter and hotter.
Melbourne (or maybe Australia as a whole, i wouldn’t know) is very very buggy during the summer. flies, mosquitos, bees, you name it. i even saw a huge spider — about 3 inches in diameter — crawling on the porch wall. eww.
the most annoying bug for at this point is the flies. these are not your regular flies. they’re humongous, about the size of the bees. they make a very loud sound when they try to fly through the glass and hit it instead. THUMP!
these flies are also fearless. when flies circling you around, you can just wave and the flies would piss off, right? well, not around here. they continue flying round close to your face and make that irritating buzzing noise, even when your waving hand accidentally hit them when trying to get them off you. i’m building an anxiety that the flies will someday get into my nose or mouth and stay in my lung forever.
earlier this last month, my dad had already warned me:
“thalia, have you heard of Australian salute?” then he waved his hand around his face, acting like he’s repelling bugs. “that’s Australian salute.” i laughed.
i haven’t confirmed whether it’s true or not, but i start to believe him.

one thing i loved about america.. there are hardly any flies *at least in the city*, even during the summer.. except maybe if the garbage hasn’t been picked up for days.. euuwww…
disini juga jarang ada mosquitoes.. gila di jakarta gitu kan banyak banget yah? is it the same thing in oz too?
please, don’t send the flies to Indonesia :D
naah, i think they have enough of them ;)
