~ kai doh maru ~
i watched Kai Doh Maru, one of those anime DVD that i bought on a whim. the drawing of the cover was amazing. and you know, i judge book by its cover ;)
so, of course, the artwork is beautiful. pretty drawings. the colors are strange; it’s almost like i saw the whole movie in a room full of mist. i don’t think there is any black in the whole movie. the darkest color is medium gray. although i can’t say that it was the best animation i’ve seen…
unfortunately, the story telling is no good. i watched the movie twice in a row (it’s pretty short), and still couldn’t understand what the hell is this movie all about. even after the second run, i still went “wha?!”
after i went through the whole DVD extras, i finally had some clue. the background story of each characters were written on the Character Profiles. so, i kinda put the pieces together… although i have to admit there are still pieces missing.
i think they tried to compress a long, complicated story into an hour movie (was it an hour? it seems so short). characters just started popping up, and it was hard to follow the relatoinship between each characters… and i couldn’t tell the difference between each one. the fact that all characters have pretty much the same faces didn’t help me following the storyline either.
i’ve learned my lesson: before i bought the DVD, i should’ve read the review first…
