~ blackout in NYC ~

15 August 2003

as i was buying coffee at the my regular sandwich/coffee shop at the station, the same guy who were yelled for saying the wrong greeting, greeted us with, “huge black out! in new york!”

i was like, huh? there was a brief moment of panic, which i think it came from thinking on what happened with the friends in nyc. i called ari immediately (it was 6 in the morning in Singapore, and he was still in bed). and i ended up leaving the station without my coffee…

it turned out there is a huge power failure on northern part of US. boy, that old home of mine… so many bad things happened to them lately… :( stay cool, everyone…

linkydink: look, motioncutebook#3 has launched!

update: crazy photos from one of my favorite NYC weblog, the Gothamist.

The good news is it’s mostly back on (at least here in Brooklyn) and for the most part, no one got hurt. Plus some people got a day off! ;)

hee, good to hear you back online :) was it only a day off? or more?

Turned out to be 12 hours for me. Longer for others, the power came back on at different times in different neighborhoods. I just heard on the radio that all of NYC is officially back on, so it turned out to be a day and a few hours.

I was in the dark for about 12 hours too. I did get to meet my turkish neighbor, who gave me a drink I can’t pronounce but was describe as 1/2 anise and 1/2 pure alchohol. It didn’t taste good at all but it made my throat feel better. (ps. thanks for joining my friendster.)

wow, reading slesta’s and pete’s comments, it looks like the blackout makes the newyorkers more sociable, eh? :P
