~ missing NY ~
i saw this note today, and it made my day (if you can’t find it, look for the post on May 23rd). i got a little bit sappy…
while i was in Sidney looking at the Opera House, i told Lendra that it doesn’t look as big as i imagined. sorta like how i felt when i saw the Guggenheim Museum in New York for the first time… then, Lendra asked me if i missed New York.
now that i think about it, i probably miss it very much without realizing it. most of my conversation end up with me discussing things about New York. if i was in the cab, i’ll tell story about New York cabs. if i was eating pizza, i’d compare it with New York pizza. it seems like everything i see reminds me to New York: clothing shops — “wow, it’s cheaper than New York”, trams — “they don’t have this kinda thing in New York, but they have subways”…
gosh, i’ve turned into a very annoying New York crazed freak.
but seriously, i miss the lifestyle. but what i miss the most is that little thing like B.W.I.F.; the time to hang out with people you like. i guess i could re-create the lifestyle, but it wouldn’t be the same without the people, right?
it’s been a while since i had Indian Food… cia, weld, miked, i think i’ll have it two weeks from now ;)
When I just got back to Singapore from 3 years of college in Sydney, lots of things kept reminding me of how they were done differently in Sydney.
When I was in Jakarta for a visit from Singapore, certain things reminded me of Singapore (such as cleaniness, traffic, queues - where in Jakarta, it was the opposite).
As I’m now here in NYC, sometimes I compare the taste of Cappuccino at Roma cafe in Little Italy to Caps at Maisy’s cafe in Neutral Bay. The previous still cannot beat the later. How Waldbaum’s reminds me of Cold Storage. How my Australian friends used to make jokes out of John Howard, contrary of jokes by my fellow New Yorkers out of that Bloomberg guy.
Bottom line, wherever you go, the memories follow you.
