~ consulate problem ~

22 November 2002

more moving nightmare: when i called indonesian consulate, they said they need a proof that i go to school and work here in the US to get me a letter that allows me to ship my stuff and not paying custom tax. is college transcript ok?, i asked. yes, the dude said. i called twice to make sure… then i was sure.

last night, i didn’t get to bed till 4 making a list of every single item we’re bringing home. i woke up at 9 this morning and leave for the consulate right away. well, they said they need a sign letter from school and work stating the length i’ve worked there.

argh! but… but… you said transcript is ok?!?!….

ari and i ran to kinko’s, typed the letter, fax it to Lehigh’s registrar office who said on the phone that they might be able to do it today, typed another letter to send to angie at bolt and send it by email… by the time i’m done sending all that stuff, it was 1:15pm. and the consulate is closed at 1:30pm…. damn, we have to wait until monday.

why can’t they tell me everything via the phone? why things have to be different depending on who i’m talking to? i asked how long it takes to process the document:

on the phone #1: 2-3 days.
on the phone #2: 3-4 days.
consulate girl: 1 week.
a woman, who pushed away the girl and said: the next day.

wtf?! i guess it’s just a friendly reminder on how things are going to be like back home. *sigh*.

my apartment currently look like this:

later that day: to ease the anger, ari and i ended up walking around soho, shopping for gifts and birthday presents. shopping is a good medicine, eh?

Criminal record dari kantor polisi sih katanya, tapi lucu juga, masa gua anak kecil gini masuk kantor polisi tau˛ nyeletuk “I want to request for my criminal record please.” Nakutin tuch, hihihi.
Waktu itu gua telepon sih, diterima mesin, apa ya namanya? Voice mail? Udah gitu ngomongnya cepettttt bangettt kaya kereta interstate, gua ampe telepon 3 kali sebelum dapetin listnya lengkap. Konsulat disini jauh dari rumah gua, 2 jam perjalanan… Biasanya telepon dulu, siap˛ dulu, males khan kalo bolak balik o_O;;

gue heran pada banyak masalah ama bea cukai.. perasaan gue bawa macem2 ngga pernah dipalak-in.. cuma ada satu tips sih.. blaga gila aja! jangan kelewat ramah, jangan kelewat blagu.. en jangan kelewat blo’on.. pasti lolos! trust me.. ratusan kali gue bolak balik bawa peralatan lenong ampe kalo perlu toilet bowl juga gue tenteng.. lolos aje tuch..
