~ chinese shabu-shabu ~

18 October 2002

it was my first time having chinese shabu-shabu. ari and i went with a few other people, some i knew previously, some i’ve seen them in parties but never introduced myself earlier, and some i first met in the Bingo Shabu-Shabu restaurant (yeah, the restaurant is named Bingo! i thought it was hillarious). they provided us with some boiling broth, we walked to the salad bar type of stand where we can take anything we want: all kind of vegetables, sliced meat, tofu & fishballs, sliced fish, all types of crabs, crawfish, shrimps and some alive snails. i didn’t know that they’re still alive until Sona tried to get them out of the shell and the poor snail retracted and tried to hide. he ended up in the boiling pot.

the cooking was hillarious. cia called the uncooked crawfish Charlie. i mean, how do you eat something that you named? i couldn’t. too much attachment. and joanne managed to broke a plastic chostick trying to help Marz pulling out a cooked snail out of the shell. seriously, though… it didn’t seem that horrific if when i was there. strangely, it didn’t reduce my appetite at all. although i chickened out on the snail, but i still drink the soup broth. i was sooo busy cooking and eating, i forgot to take photos… i wish i did. it was quite amusing. and i have to say the crabs were delicious!

after the fulfilling dinner, we headed out to Happy Ending, the same place where Cia threw the generationrice party a few days ago. i was too full to drink, so we left after the first drink. on the way home, i found ultraman on the wall:
