after two days of non-stop rain in Jakarta, the whole city was pretty much flooded. something similar to this happened back in 2002. from what i heard, yesterday was the worst. highways, airports, hospitals, train stations are all non-functional due to the flood. many places lost their electricity, too. there has also been deaths as the result of the flood.
basically, the whole city has gone to a halt. this is photos from Marthin’s place… pretty crazy looking. in some areas, the water level goes up to the roof of one-story houses. scary!
what worries me the most is that ari’s parents live in one of the most flood-prone area in Jakarta; Greenville — Tanjung Duren.
this morning, we got a news from home that ari’s parents are pretty much trapped in their house. the water level in their house is as high as their dining table. if they try to go on the street in front of their house, the water is up to their chest (1.3 meter?). there is no electricity in the area, because the central had to turn it off to prevent electrocution. the phone has been cut off. the cell phone is getting thin on the battery, and there is no way to charge it up. they are currently living on their second floor with their dog. there is limited amount of clean water and gas to cook.
hearing this makes me want to cry. it’s very hard to get in touch with them, since the only means of communication is a cell phone with very little battery power.
boy, oh boy… i’m so worried. i so hope the water level will go down soon.

iya, di rumah ari juga segitu tuh… kalo 1.3 meter sih, kira2 seleher gue kali ya (lebih pendek dari “orang dewasa”, hee hee). untung elo sempet pulang…

thanks for the photos, Marek! yeah, i thought the flood is bigger than the 2002 since the water level seems to be higher and there are more flooded points. but all the people i talked to said that it’s not as bad as the 2002.

iya nih Thal, turut prihatin. udah gitu hujan masih akan turun lebih deras lagi di bulan feb ini. well, this is according to the BMG. this year flood i think is worst than 2002 flood. my dad said 80% of Jakarta area is paralyzed.
tapi kok temen gue yg tinggal di jl.delima-tj.duren oke2 aja tuh neng…

iya, gue juga dibilangin, kalo feb itu have the highest rainfall. wah ga kebayang deh gue jakarta kayak gimana. denger2, katanya 20% dari jakarta aja udah kerendem air… serasa venesia…
*shrugs*… tante, om dan neneknya ari, yang juga tinggal di Tanjung Duren — tapi bukan di Greenville, juga ga kebanjiran tuh. setau gue sih, spot2 yang prone banjir kan bukan seluruh tanjung duren.

haha! iya tuh. sehari sebelum kawinan gue sempet gotong2 baju kawin ke mobil dengan *spa kaki* sepaha gara2 greenville banjir. moga2 udah mendingan sekarang…
