at our house, the dog sits on the sofa, the owner sits on the floor…
despite the fact that koda has gotten much calmer than she was a year ago, her old anxiety problem has made a comeback: she licks and chews on her fur compulsively. it’s like she can’t stop cleaning herself. her front legs are full of bald patches and her back legs are pretty much bald to the skin. it’s been happening for the past few months. and since we knew it’s a psychological problem, we don’t take her to the vet… we just go and scold her for chewing.
today, however, i found a 2cm diameter of bleeding spot on her right foreleg. it’s the first time i found out that she chew herself to her skin. i thought all she does is chew on the fur. so, i panicked. my dog is bleeding! oh no! vet, vet, vet!
i called the vet immediately and asked if i could go there right away. it was almost 5 o’clock, their closing time. thank god, the vet is nearby (2 minutes walk). she also likes koda and doesn’t mind waiting for her.
just like before, the vet said that koda’s skin is flawless, so those chewing is not caused by skin problems. once again, we came home with the anti-anxiety drug that were given when she was 5 months old. the vet was sad and quite frustrated, because she couldn’t help much other than prescribing the downer. and just in case Koda relapses again after the drugs finish, she also gave some tips on finding “natural remedies” at a store that sells ointments to reduce people’s anxiety. that way, we won’t make our dog a drug-addict.

i’d love to go to one, if there is any in Singapore. the vet doesn’t know any. so, if you do, please let us know.
Maybe sign her up to a behaviour modification class?

yah, tapi emang tempat itu udah di-tap dia duluan sih. kalo kita lagi duduk situ, kadang2 dia suka nangkring di depan kita, agak2 nyuruh buat pegi, biar bisa ditidurin dia.
ikut yoga RB? mesti ke jakarta dong (…ih, maap, ga nyambung).
wah turut prihatin! Mungkin Koda stressing out karena akan ada new member in the family. She is jelous and that how she wants to show it to you. Kali yaaaa…. me no expert 🙂
hehe, i’m not sure if she knew about that yet. but this anxiety problem has started since she was little (5-6 months old), so it’s probably doesn’t have anything to do with the new member thing.
