Two weekends ago, right on the 31st of October, we threw another Halloween Party. But Ari and I were so busy that we didn’t take many pictures during the party. It took me more than a week to gather pictures from everybody… So, pardon me for the late post.
This year, out of nowhere, we decided to go for a more scary theme… I guess because Aina is curious and old enough to wear a ghostly costume. So this year’s theme is… *drum roll”…
Asian Ghosts and Spirits!
So, first we decorated our house and ourselves based on the theme. As usual, we did the twin lantern thing. This year, they were the modern version of Pocong, the Indonesian/Malaysian ghost. We tried to make it less scary by having big eyes and no strings tied on the top and bottom, because we didn’t want our guests to leave before the party started…
Our candy packets were Makuro Kurosuke from the Ghibli series. To match the candy packet, I was Totoro from the movie My Neighbor Totoro and Ari was a Kaonashi from the movie Spirited Away. And I think, Kaonashi worked well with the two ghosts… very creepy looking.
And surprisingly, everyone came dressed up! We were soooo happy! We had various ghosts and ghouls visiting our house. From different sizes and genders of Chinese Vampires, to a few Japanese Yūrei. Some were from horror movies, some were from cute cartoons (Yokai TV series, The Spirited Away and Ghibli).
So, these are the ghost families… or other characters.
And the various kid costumes…Aina was wearing her Sadako and the Well costume, as one of the horror movie tributes. There was actually a baby Ewok complete with his Wickett’s spear, but I couldn’t find his picture.
The decoration around the neighborhood was more interesting compared to last year, which was pretty bland. There was a big Ironman and a Pirate Ship… These pictures don’t do justice, though. Maybe we should have taken a more powerful camera when we go around Trick-or-Treating…
This year, the kids didn’t go too far around the neighborhood, because it started to rain in the evening. We all had to wait until the rain stopped to start walking around. And even after all that rain, the weather stayed hot and humid. So our costumes came off rather early… It was too hot to keep the costumes on!
The older kids were up in Aina’s room playing God knows what…
the younger ones were busy taking turns with the swing…

And Erlia has an entry about this Halloween Party, too! Although it is in Indonesian…
