after watching it on TV for the past 6 years, we finally came out and see the Singapore’s National Day Parade’s fireworks for ourselves. just the fireworks, though… we skipped the parade for now.
we rode our bike to the Marina Bay, stopping at Liang Court to have an early dinner. we tried to wear red and white as much as possible 🙂
as soon as we crossed the tunnel to the Esplanade Park, we couldn’t go any further. there was a sea of people… and the show was still 2 hours away!
aina was sitting on her bike child seat during the wait.
as the sun setting further down, there were more and more crowd gathering, it was crazy! so finally, we moved aina from the bike child seat to ari’s shoulder… and she got a prime view 🙂
we couldn’t see much, since the NDP stage was located behind the bridge in front of us, but we could see the three helicopters flying right above us carrying a huuuuuge singapore flag. pretty cool!
after waiting for about two hours, finally the fireworks began…
aina, who were so excited about seeing real firework up close, ended up scared… she was worried that the fireworks would fall on her. at least she’s not scared of the loud sound anymore, but she kept shielding her head with her hands…
anyways, what’s really amazing about singapore is that, we could get out of the crowd within 15 minutes after the fireworks show finished. the police were very helpful, the crowd, even though they push around a little bit, moved accordingly… and in 15 minutes, we’re back on the street riding our bicycles home. that’s much, much faster than the NYE fireworks in Melbourne where we’re stranded in the city for hours… or even compared to the one in the NYE fireworks in Fukuoka, which we thought would break all records!
so, i think we’re going to see the NDP on the Floating Stadium next year 🙂
happy birthday, Singapore!
