after sporting red (and pink, once it’s washed out) hair for five months, i thought it’s time for a change. mostly because i have run out of the red dye — need to buy more — and the black root has grown 5cm off the scalp. it doesn’t look good, especially when the red has washed out leaving the pale pink right next to long black roots.
after doing a quick polling with aina, ari, my friends and twitter buds, i’ve decided (it was a popular vote) to go with purple.
actually, purple was the first crazy color i put on my hair. i was still in college. it was done over a long weekend (or was it a school holiday?) in ari’s bathroom in NYC. Nia, ari’s sister, helped me bleach and dye the hair while ari was out working…
anyways, i digress.
this afternoon, i went to our hair dresser (she cuts ari’s hair). first, she bleached my hair:
after the first bleaching was done, it’s obvious that the root was still too orange.
so we bleached it again. only the root, though. the front part of my hair had turned so white and was sort of fried from over-bleaching. the back and some patch of the front, however, still had some red… the hairdresser said the purple will cover the red, though.
that was after the second bleaching (ouch, my poor scalp!) it’s not very clear in the picture, but the roots has turned to very light yellow.
then, we applied the dye.
the shades were Plum by La Riche Directions mixed with Raspberry Beret by Fudge. why mix? well, originally i wanted the Plum only. but in the middle of dyeing, they ran out of it and that was the last one in stock. so the closest color was this Raspberry Beret from Fudge. oh well.
and now, the finished product, 3.5 hours later — as you can see from the clock behind me.
the styling probably won’t last long. apart from that, i like it very, very much. hooray!
